Born in Sacramento in 1986, Anderson learned to play both piano and guitar as a boy. He went on to study music at the University of Virginia. 

While at the University of Virginia Anderson met friend and fellow musician Nate McFarland, with whom he formed the band Sparky’s Flaw. The band later changed its name to Parachute, and by Anderson’s junior year had been signed to Mercury Records. Shortly afterward Anderson moved to Nashville. 

Parachute gained widespread critical praise for their intelligent songwriting and retro sound reminiscent of acts like John Mayer, Ben Folds Five and the Dave Matthews Band. They released their debut album Losing Sleep in 2009, though gained the most acclaim for their 2011 sophomore release The Way It Was. The Way It Was reached the top twenty on the Billboard 200, and the top ten on Billboard’s Rock Albums chart. Anderson has since toured with high-profile artists such as Switchfoot, Kelly Clarkson and The Goo Goo Dolls.
