A native of Chicoutimi, Quebec, Pedneault is known primarily for his work covering Canadian ice hockey. He is the only person in history to have worked for all three of Montreal’s French-language daily newspapers, and in 1998 received the Hockey Hall of Fame’s Elmer Ferguson Memorial Award.
Pedneault first developed a name for himself as a hockey writer with the Montreal-Matin, where he covered both the Junior and Montreal Canadiens. He soon found work as a broadcaster on television as well, achieving national fame through his tenure with Television de Radio-Canada, TQS and Reseau des Sports. He became popular in particular for his catchphrase “It’s time!” which he would follow by imitating the sound of a drill.
For a number of years, Pedneault hosted Canada’s longest-running sports talk show, Les Amateurs de Sports, on Montreal’s CKAC station. The broadcaster has also covered a number of Olympic Games, and since the early 2000s has served on the committee of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
