Snider’s first break came while he was performing a residency at a club in Memphis. He was discovered by a member of Jimmy Buffet’s band, who introduced Snider to songwriting legend John Prine. Prine hired Snider as an assistant and began taking the young songwriter on the road with him. This led to Snider’s first record deal and eventual first release.

Thanks to the 1994 release of his debut album Songs for the Daily Planet, Todd Snider tickets became a commodity among folk and Americana music fans. Snider was officially off and running after the release of his first record and has released nineteen albums between 1994 and 2019. Snider’s open-hearted songwriting style has won him the affection of many publications over the years. Rolling Stone magazine even named his 2006 album The Devil You Know one of the fifty best albums of that year. In addition to his own schedule of writing and releasing, Snider finds time to lend his talents to other projects. In 2010, he performed a cover of “A Boy Named Sue” to a compilation album honoring the late Shel Silverstein, and he has also contributed both his singing voice and his acting skills to the Adult Swim show Squidbillies. An evening listening to Snider’s impressive musical storytelling is nearly sure to be an evening well spent.
