Performing Arts Center at Buffalo State College is a multi-purpose theatre located on Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo, New York. When the State Teachers College at Buffalo moved out of the building in 1931, Rockwell Hall was born and named after the college president at the time Harry W. Rockwell. Rockwell Hall has everything from classrooms to the School of Arts and Sciences, as well as the Music and Art Departments and the Performing Arts Center.
After a fire in 1970 almost completely collapsed Rockwell Hall’s auditorium, a three-year renovation was in order. This renovation took on many hats in the redesign making room for new dressing rooms, sloped seating, a stage house and state-of-the-art sound and lighting. It also has a new orchestra pit and a retractable orchestra shell for performances. It reopened in 1987, with a gala celebration as well as featuring many different types of music from classical to pop during the night.
