Opening in 1960, it became NASCAR’s home track and is referred to as "America's Home for Racing." It was known as Lowe’s Motor Speedway from 1999 to 2009. The overall track record at the speedway was set by Tony Stewart in 1999 at an average speed of 220.4978 miles per hour. This was during an IndyCar Series race. The NASCAR track record was set by Kurt Busch at an average speed of 198.771 miles per hour. Over the past 60 years, the speedway has developed into a motorsports complex. It added the zMAX Dragway and the Dirt Track at Charlotte to the grounds.
