The course lies on the south bank of the Clear Fork of the Trinity River. The club was founded in 1936 by Marvin Leonard, who had a desire to have bentgrass greens available where he lived. Unable to install bentgrass at a local course, Leonard made the decision to create his own club. The initial membership of the club was approximately 100 members.
