Harris Sr.’s grandson, Howard “Baldy” Harris revived the rodeo tradition in 1955 after returning from college with the 1954 National Intercollegiate All-Around Rodeo Championship. The weekly rodeo event gained national exposure by airing on TV from 1958 to 1959 and from 1969 to 1970.
Baldy’s son, Howard Grant Harris, grew up competing on the rodeo circuit and becoming a champion in his own right before taking over the Cowtown rodeo from his father. It was a momentous decision to move from being a competitor to a producer, but he never regretted it. Together with his family, Harris keeps the tradition alive by passing it on to the next generation. Cowtown Rodeo has events all over the East Coast and features bucking stock that are the descendants of the animals from the 1970s.
