The center was approved for construction by the Orange County Board of County Commissioners on July 26, 2007, and the Orlando City Council on August 6, 2007. The design was executed by architect Bruton Myers. The theaters inside the facility were laid out by Artec Acoustic Consultants and Theatre Project Consultants.
