The club originally offered only seven holes in 1906. It wasn’t until 1907 that the course had the standard 18 holes. In 1907, the course also hosted its first noteworthy event, with the Southern Amateur being played there, with Nelson Whitney being the winner of the tournament. The course was renovated by course architect Donald Ross in 2013.

The event was first played on the course in 1998, with David Duval taking home the cup that year. The Tour Championship moved to the course permanently in 2004. The East Lake Golf Club’s profits go towards the East Lake Foundation, whose mission is to revitalize the East Lake Community.
