The structure was designed by architect Albert Kahn in 1928. This Art Deco-style building of granite, limestone and marble stands 30 stories tall. The building was originally decked out in a Mayan Revival style as a Vaudeville house with Mexican-Indian art, banana trees and macaw parrots flying all around the guests, but it later became a movie house until 1961.
