Gielgud Theatre Tickets

Gielgud Theatre Event Tickets

Experience this theatre in the historic West End district of London with Gielgud Theatre tickets. This majestic building is located on Shaftesbury Avenue in the City of Westminster, London, on the corner of Rupert Street. It was built in 1906 and originally named the Hicks Theater, after the builder Seymour Hicks, and designed by the famed theatre architect W. G. R. Sprague. The very first performance was a musical entitled The Beauty of Bath and was co-written by Hicks and Cosmo Hamilton. In 1909, after Charles Frohman became the theatre’s manager, the building was renamed the Globe Theatre. 85 years later, when Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre was rebuilt on the South Bank, this theatre was renamed Gielgud in honor of famed actor John Gielgud. The theatre has three levels with 986 seats available, down from 994 seats after two major renovations in 1987 and 2008.

In addition to the popular musicals written by the Gielgud theatre’s founder, there have been several historic performances throughout the building's more than 115 years of existence. Shows like Call It a Day in 1935, Daisy Pulls It Off in 1983, There’s a Girl in My Soup in 1966 and A Waltz Dream in 1908.  While Delfont Mackintosh Theatres runs a variety of shows, historically the theatre focuses on musicals, which audiences can experience live with Gielgud Theatre tickets.
