Joe Aillet Stadium opened on September 28, 1968, with the Bulldogs' first game at the new stadium against the East Carolina Pirates, where the Louisiana Tech won with a final score of 35-7, spearheaded by none other than quarterback great Terry Bradshaw. The stadium was formerly named Louisiana Tech Stadium until 1972 when it was renamed the Joe Aillet Stadium to honor the longtime head football coach, who served from 1940 to 1966 that passed away a year prior.
