The original building at this site was constructed in 1894 as a temporary concert hall called Victoria Palace. Over the years the building went through a variety of owners and names, such as Llandudno Opera House, Hippodrome and Arcadia, until 1994 when the original structure closed and was later demolished in 2005. In 1982 the Aberconwy Center opened next door with 1,500 seat auditorium, as well as squash and badminton courts. The original theatre’s demolition left the room to expand the complex and so the Venue Cymru was born.
This new building combined the theatre and conference center together. The seating was expanded to a maximum capacity of 5,000 people, for standing room. A restaurant, café, box office and general office space was also added during this renovation. There are private banquet hall and ballrooms that can hold up to 400 guests and two theaters that have1,450 and 2,500 seats respectively.
