The stadium originally opened on May 26, 1931, as Municipal Stadium. The stadium was expanded in 1940 and then again in 1962, bringing the seating capacity up to 8,500. In 1989, and in 2004 the seating capacity was lowered. As of 2004, the current number of seats is 4,024. The ballpark is one of the oldest stadiums in minor league baseball.
