The duo is best known for starting the cabaret Moulin Rouge which is located in the Pigalle area of Paris. During the early years of Olympia Hall, attendance was restricted to the aristocracy. It was the first music hall in Paris and had an initial capacity of 2,000. It marked a shift in the performance scene throughout Paris as before its founding, small cafes and large opera houses were more common locations for musical performances.
Throughout the 1920s, Olympia Hall started to lose its effectiveness as a performance venue and it was converted into a cinema during the 1930s and 1940s. It reopened as a concert and performance venue in 1954 and became a popular destination for rock bands throughout the 1960s. By the 1990s, Olympia Hall was in danger of being demolished. The venue was saved and underwent extensive renovations.
