The stadium’s inaugural event was a high school game that competed on April 11, 2011, between two local high school teams. The Storm Chasers played their first game in the stadium on April 16, 2011, beating the Nashville Sounds 2-1. Other sports played there include the USL League One professional soccer team Union Omaha. The University of Nebraska Omaha Mavericks also utilizes Werner Park for some home games.

In 2015, the Triple-A All-Star Game was held at Werner Park, along with its accompanying Home Run Derby. The International League All-Stars defeated the Pacific League All-Stars 4-3.
To accommodate Union Omaha, a $2.4 million dollar renovation occurred, updating the playing service and facilities, including a retractable pitcher’s mound, some changes to the right-field foul pole and a new structure to house staff and equipment.
