The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds, which was previously called the Dixie Classic Fairgrounds until 2019, is a dirt oval that spans half a mile in Winston-Salem, N.C. It was used primarily as a fairground and is the former location of the Winston Salem Fairs and Dixie Classic Fairs. It was also a venue for stock car racing.
The track was used by NASCAR until 1955 when NASCAR discontinued its use. Races occurred there in late summer or early autumn. A notable exception is the Dixie Classic Fair race, which occurred on October 31, 1948. Lee Petty was a two-time Grand National Series winner on the course. The Grand National Series was the precursor to the NASCAR Cup Series and Xfinity Series. Fred Dove drove his last NASCAR Cup Series race on Winston Salem, finishing third. Automobile racing was discontinued in 1963.
