Vrbo Citrus Bowl Tickets
Cheer on your favorite team in person when you purchase Citrus Bowl tickets. It’s one of the oldest consecutively-running non-College Football Playoffs (CFP) bowls. The Vrbo Citrus Bowl also features the largest payout of a non-CFP bowl game at around $8.5 million per team. Other historic bowl games include the Gator Bowl and the Sun Bowl. The first game was held in 1947 and was called the Tangerine Bowl. This game had Catawba defeating Maryville College. The college football teams played at the Greater Orlando Stadium in Orlando, Florida. That stadium is now called the Camping World Stadium. The current sponsor is Vrbo, which is a vacation rental marketplace. Vrbo Citrus Bowl tickets sell out quickly, as they are equally allotted to both teams.
Other names for the bowl have included the Capital One Bowl, the Buffalo Wild Wings Citrus Bowl and Citrus Bowl presented by Overton's. The bowl game is operated by Florida Citrus Sports, a non-profit organization, which runs the Cheez-It Bowl and the Florida Classic. Every year, the Vrbo Citrus Bowl is played at 1 pm EST on New Year’s Day just before the broadcast of the annual Rose Bowl on ESPN. To avoid conflict with the NFL, if January 1 falls on a Sunday, the game will be held the day before or the day after.
Currently, the Vrbo Citrus Bowl has bid tie-ins with the Big Ten Conference and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). In some instances, an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) football team will replace the Big Ten Conference football team when the Orange Bowl is not a CFP semi-final game. The following college football teams have appeared in this bowl game six times each: Pennsylvania State University (Penn State), the University of Florida, the University of Georgia and the University of Michigan. The 2020 Vrbo Citrus Bowl was between the University of Alabama and the University of Michigan. The Alabama Crimson Tide football team was victorious, with a final score of 35-16.
