In 1977 Pilobolus gave its first Broadway performance at the St. James Theatre, after which they were heralded by publications like The New Yorker as one of the most extraordinary modern dance groups of the time.

The dance company’s signature style involves a degree of physical interaction between the dancers that goes beyond what is typical of the art form. The group’s choreography often heavily exaggerates human anatomy even to the point of contortion.
