The team is one of the longest-running minor league franchises as they were originally founded in 1897 as the Asheville Moonshiners. The Asheville Tourists became a minor league affiliate of the Houston Astros and joined the High-A East in 2021. In total, the Tourists won seven minor league championships across various leagues before the team moved into the High-A East.
