Their first album, Information, was released in 1980. Berlin garnished colossal success on their second album, Pleasure Victim, which included their first significant hit song, "Sex (I'm A...)". However, the hit song was swiftly considered controversial and even banned from some radio stations for its explicit lyrics.
In 1986, the group topped the charts with their popular single "Take My Breath Away," which was featured in the famous Tom Cruise movie Top Gun. Berlin disbanded in 1987 with singer Terri Nunn recreating Berlin in the late 1990s and was featured on VH1's "Bands Reunited." They performed one show at The Roxy in California, where Berlin tickets swiftly became sold out.
Following their hiatus, the group contributed to several tribute albums for notable bands like Marilyn Manson, Depeche Mode, and Madonna in the early 2000s. They released their new hit album, Animal, in 2013 and have since garnished success with their albums Transcendence and Strings Attached.
Berlin's singer, Terri Nunn, received an Icon Award in 2019 from the Women's International Music Network. In addition, she earned the 11th spot on VH1's "100 Greatest Women in Rock" and was recognized in the "Best Series Theme Song" for the MTV series Angela's Eyes.
