The English new wave band Bow Wow Wow was formed in 1980 by manager Malcolm McLaren, who convinced three members of Adam and the Ants to leave their group behind and form another band under his management. The lead singer of the new group was 13-year-old Annabella Lwin. 

The group briefly added a male vocalist, named George Alan O’Dowd but he left and soon formed his own band, calling the band Culture Club and taking the name Boy George. Bow Wow Wow issued the world’s first cassette single with their debut song “C-30 C-60 C-90 Go!” In 1980. That same year they released their debut mini-album, Your Cassette Pet.

In May of 1982, the band released the EP The Last of the Mohicans, which contained the track “I Want Candy,” a remake of the song by the Strangeloves in 1965. The single reached number nine on the UK Singles Chart in 1982 and the video was very popular on MTV. The band dissolved after Lwin was fired in 1983 but Lwin reformed the band with original member bassist Leigh Gorman in 1997.
