They are known as one of the leading acts in the electronic body music movement, which combines punk rock and industrial with disco and dance music. The members are Daniel Myer, Andreas Catjar, Joakim Montelius, Daniel Jonasson and Eskil Simonsson.
Covenant first came together in Helsingborg in 1988, inspired by acts like Depeche Mode, The Human League and Kraftwerk. In 1992 the band released their debut single “The Replicant,” which caught the eye of several labels when it was included on a compilation album later that year. Covenant was soon signed to Memento Materia, through which they released their debut album Dreams of a Cryotank in 1994.
Two years later, the band released one of their most well-known albums, Sequencer. The album’s innovative use of music sequencers saw it become an instant classic in electronic music circles, and it remains a fan favorite at dance clubs still today. Covenant found its most significant mainstream success, however, with Europa in 1998. Europa became a top three hit on the CMJ RPM charts, introducing the band to US audiences.
