This show is based on the internationally celebrated children’s show, SpongeBob SquarePants. Created by the late Stephen Hillenburg in 1999, SpongeBob instantly became a household name. Both the musical and the show take place in Bikini Bottom, a fictional city under the ocean. As a marine biologist, Hillenburg based all of his characters on sea creatures. The live performance and the animated series both feature SpongeBob Squarepants, Patrick Star and Squidward Tentacles. David Bowie helped write the musical number “No Control.” The Plain White T’s wrote “BFF,” and “Hero is My Middle Name” was co-written by Cyndi Lauper.
