This unique instrument was invented in the ‘70s and is essentially a polyphonic 12-string bass synthesizer. Levin and Mastelotto recruited Michael Bernier to also play the Chapman Stick, and the trio released their first album Soup in 2010. Bernier then left the band and Markus Reuter replaced him. They released the improvisational EP Absalom in 2011, then the albums Open and Deep in 2012 and 2013. The group also has released more than five live albums and three compilations.

The group started as simply a bass-forward progressive rock band but has evolved into a mix between art rock and progressive metal.
