Thurgood Theatre Tickets
Take a closer look into the life and induction of the first African-American Supreme Court justice with Thurgood tickets. A one-man play, Thurgood is a theatrical collaboration of civil rights, Black history and American history. Audiences are invited to follow Marshall’s journey to become a Supreme Court Justice and his efforts in fighting for equality. Thurgood Marshall’s 58-year-old career in the justice system is explored and the play is decorated with his acclaimed sharp wit, tenacity and kindness. Other moments of his life that are dictated throughout the 90-minute production are his familial relationships, adversity with obtaining sufficient education and a law degree as a Black man as well as his work with the NAACP. The 2023 iteration of the play is directed by Steve H. Broadnax III (Thoughts of a Colored Man, A Christmas Carol in Harlem) and stars Brian Marable as Thurgood Marshall.
Thurgood was written by George Stevens Jr., and premiered at the Westport Country Playhouse in 2006, starring James Earl Jones as Marshall. In 2008, Laurence Fishburne would take up the mantle as Supreme Court Justice Marshall. Fishburne’s performance would earn him a Tony nomination for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play and was awarded a Drama Desk Award and an Outer Critics Circle Award for his acting talents.
