Tennis Event Tickets
Tennis tickets are some of the most popular gifts sporting event fans can purchase for each other. From NCAA college matches to professional tournaments, we have you covered. The International Tennis Federation, ITF, started in 1913 in London, England when tennis was still called lawn tennis. Lawn tennis was the first model for what would become the tennis we know today. The ITF oversees the men’s organization, the Association of Tennis Professionals, and the Women’s Tennis Association.
Tennis tickets are sure to give you a night of fun sports. The Association of Tennis Professionals began overseeing men’s tennis matches and players in September 1972. The organization launched the ATP Tour in 1990, which was remodeled in 2009 as the ATP World Tour. This new structure turned the Masters Series into what we now know as the Masters 1000 tournaments. These take place each year in Miami, Cincinnati, Montreal, Paris, Monte Carlo, and Madrid.
The Women’s Tennis Association became the overseeing body of women’s professional tennis in June 1973. The organization was founded by Olympian and number one world professional player Billie Jean King. King was driven to create the WTA to combat the rampant pay inequality between male and female players. The Women’s Tennis Association launched the WTA Tour in 1981, which provided the most substantial award money in women’s professional tennis. The WTA Tour is now part of the Grand Slam tournaments.
The Grand Slam tournaments are by far the most exciting matches of the year. One hundred twenty-eight of the world’s best men and women tennis players compete to see who’s the best in the league. The Grand Slam includes the Australian Open, the French Open, Wimbledon and the US Open. Aside from the Davis Cup and Fed Cup, these Grand Slam tournaments are the only ones regulated by the International Tennis Federation.
These four tournaments back place across the globe from January through September. Wins are calculated from each game to determine the Grand Slam champion. TicketSmarter has professional tennis tickets available for these great tournaments.
