Opening in 1989 by Peter Jest, Shank Hall was named for a fictional Milwaukee club played by musicians in the film “This Is Spinal Tap.” The single-story brick building is branded by its big marquee over the door. The interior walls provide a Shank Hall history lesson via press clippings and photos of artists who have graced the stage.

Shank Hall is a mecca for tribute bands like Kick: The INXS Experience or Church of Cash. Singer-songwriters Katie Toupin and Billy Bragg and genre-crossing artists 24-7 SPYZ and Cowboy Mouth tour Shank Hall. Also, be sure to see Milwaukee’s bands Yipes! and the R&B Cadets. Shank Hall tickets also grant you access to the annual Milwaukee Comedy Festival.
