Cheer on your team with MLS Wild Card tickets from TicketSmarter. In 2023, Major League Soccer (MLS) introduced a new postseason format that includes a Wild Card round, Round One, Conference Semifinals and Conference Finals leading up to the MLS Cup. The Wild Card round consists of two single-elimination matches between the eighth and ninth seeds in each conference to determine the final two postseason participants.

The higher seed hosts both Wild Card matches and the winner of each will advance to play the No. 1 seed in their respective conference. Wild Card matches do not include extra time, rather teams will participate in penalty kicks if the score is tied at the end of regulation.

In Round One, teams will compete in a best-of-three series to determine the conference semifinalists. The Conference Semifinals, Conference Final and MLS Cup are each single-elimination.

MLS Wild Card Schedule

The MLS plays a Spring-to-Fall schedule followed by a knockout playoff tournament for the MLS Cup. The MLS Cup Playoffs are a unique competition in the soccer world but are similar to most postseason tournaments in the United States. MLS teams also compete each year in the U.S. Open Cup, a national tournament between every professional team in the United States. The top four American teams and the best Canadian team qualify for the CONCACAF Champions League each year as well. The final big event on the MLS calendar is the Campeones Cup, which is a competition between the best club teams in the MLS and Liga MX.
